Pre Kindy

Pre Kindy students attend a couple of hours every Thursday of the week starting in Term 3.

Parents/guardians are required to attend and supervise children for the duration of the class. We request that each child brings a piece of fruit/vegetable to share at snack time and a labelled bottle of water.

Pre Kindy starts with parents/guardians spending some time with their child doing a puzzle, reading a book, or completing an activity together.

When the children have settled in a qualified teacher will start the Pre Kindy program which focuses on fostering children’s academic development in pre-reading, language, maths, science, art and fine and gross motor skills in an interactive educational environment where children can play, explore and discover.

Getting Ready

Some children find Pre Kindy daunting. There are some simple things you can do to help ease them into school life;

  • Read stories with your child about starting school.
  • Go past the school and chat with your child about how they will soon be going there, the exciting things they will do and the friends they will make.
  • Attend sessions at Jarrahdale Playgroup (Every Tuesday from 9:00 am) beforehand to have the child familiar with the learning space and possible children also attending Pre Kindy.
  • When you’re in the space, show your child where their bag will go, where the toilets are and other things to get them used to school.
  • Helping children have a positive first experience of school is important because it can shape the way they think about school in the future.

Once school starts, be actively involved yourself. Children love it when their parents and family members come along to help with reading and other activities. Your ongoing support will help them build strong foundations for success at school.
